Help Desk & Desktop Support Specialist
Location: Chicago west suburbs (near O’Hare)
Salary: $56K - $66K
This position is responsible for supporting personal computers, laptops, and standard office productivity software applications, anti-virus and internally developed applications for a global company and their partner organizations. In addition, this position is required to provide support to business productivity servers and applications.
Responsibilities:
• Provide first level support to employees experiencing computer related hardware or software problems. Support is for all local and remote locations and personnel.
• Answer helpdesk calls in a prompt and professional manner, research and follow-up helpdesk calls in a timely manner, set priority of call and follow the escalation procedures, record all calls and resolution, generate tracking and monitoring reports.
• Provide user training at the desktop and/or group level.
• Troubleshoot OS, software and hardware issues – server and desktop related.
• Develop and maintain desktop/laptop images.
• Support anti-virus/anti-spyware software, wireless and VPN access.
• Administer and support enterprise server backup software including defining scheduling and rotation strategies.
• Administer Active Directory in a geographically distributed enterprise environment (trust relationships, cross-forest permissions). Perform security audits on resource access, manage and maintain access and permissions on fileshares.
• Maintenance of phone system (phone moves, creating new voice mail boxes).
• Procurement of desktop hardware and software.
• Participate in security management for new and existing users for domain access and Oracle ERP responsibilities.
• Develop, use and maintain standard work documentation. Develop and follow support procedures in compliance with the company's operating standards.
Required Experience:
• 3 – 5 years+ experience in a Help Desk environment.
• Good experience of desktop and server OS and support including Windows NT, W2K, Windows 2003, Linux, MS office productivity software and email clients, imaging software, anti-virus/anti-spyware software, VPN, wireless administration using RADIUS, WSUS and Terminal Services
• Good knowledge of LAN protocols and client/server environments
• Strong knowledge of Active Directory maintenance and administration (Experience with group access strategy as well as access policies in a large enterprise environment is required.)
• Familiarity with home/small office broadband router setup and configuration.
• Experience of enterprise server backup software such as Veritas BackupExec or NetBackup.
• Good interpersonal skills to work and communicate effectively with end users and co-workers.
• Good verbal or written communication skills.
• Associate college degree or equivalent experience required.
• MS or A+ certification is a plus.
